PUBLIC NOTICE

The City of Clare Planning Commission will host a public forum at their regular meeting on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., 207 W. Fifth Street (Public Safety Building), for an open discussion to receive public comments pertaining medical marihuana as it pertains to land use.

Presenters at the meeting will include:

  • Attorney(s) from the Hubbard Law firm in Lansing to make an educational presentation on the topic.
  • Dr. Robert Townsend, an Internist who has substantial involvement in certifying patients for medical marijuana use.
  • Clare County Prosecutor, Michelle Ambrozaitis.
  • Casey Long, host of Clare County’s Compassion Club and member of the Michigan Medical Marijuana Association.

The Planning Commission encourages public participation at this session and will accept comments at the meeting or in writing if submitted by 5:00 p.m. the day of the meeting. Written comments can be sent to Diane Schmidt, Clare City Clerk, 202 W. Fifth Street, Clare, MI 48617.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The City of Clare Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at Clare City Hall to receive public comment pertaining to a Request for Change in Zoning, to change zoning at 4756 East North County Line Road from residential to commercial. The Planning Commission will accept comments at the hearing or in writing if the written comments are received by the City Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on the date of the hearing. A copy of the site plan application is available for review at the City Clerk’s Office.

The City of Clare City Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday August 16, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at Clare City Hall to receive public comment pertaining to the Request for Change in Zoning, at 4756 East North County Line Road. The City Commission will accept comments at the hearing or in writing if the written comments are received by the City Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on the date of the hearing.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Clare City Commission adopted Ordinance 2010-002 on July 19, 2010; the ordinance becomes effective on August 26, 2010. A complete copy of the new ordinance is available at Clare City Hall, 202 West Fifth Street or online. A summary of the ordinance is outlined below:

Amends Chapter 52, Section 52-279, Sign Ordinance amends the size requirements for window or door signs and outlines specific standards and design criteria for signs in the City’s downtown district.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The City of Clare City Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at Clare City Hall, 202 W. Fifth Street, to receive public comments pertaining to proposed Ordinance 2010-003: The State Construction Code Act And The Michigan Plumbing Code Ordinance; And, Ordinance 2010-004: The State Construction Code Act And The Michigan Mechanical Code Ordinance; Ordinances to designate an enforcing agency to discharge the responsibility of the City of Clare for mechanical and plumbing inspections and enforcement under the provisions of the State Construction Code Act. Copies of the proposed Ordinances are available for review in the Clerk’s office, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The City Commission will accept comments at the hearing or in writing if the written comments are received by the City Clerk not later than 5 p.m. on the date of the hearing.

The City of Clare Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on Friday, July 30, 2010, at 4:30 p.m. at Clare City Hall to receive publiccomment pertaining to a request for a Use Variance - to place a sandwich board in the downtown district on the sidewalk on the corner of Fifth and McEwan streets in front of Maxwell’s. A copy of the application is available for review at City Hall, 202 W Fifth Street, Clare, MI 48617, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Zoning Board of Appeals will accept comments at the hearing or in writing if the written comments are received by the City Clerk not later than 4:30 p.m. on the date of the hearing.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Absentee ballots are available for the August 3, 2010 Primary Election. Qualified electors may obtain an absentee ballot at the Clare City Clerk’s Office, located at 202 W. Fifth Street, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, July 30, 2010, and on Saturday July 31, 2010, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

To qualify for an absentee ballot, you must meet at least one of the following criteria: be at least
60 years of age; absent from the community for the entire time the polls are open on election
day; physically unable to attend the polls; unable to attend the polls because of religious reasons;
appointed as an election inspector in a precinct other than where you live; or confined to jail
awaiting arraignment or trial.
